This always sounds like an interesting event which has been running for a few years. The internationally flavoured programme gets bigger each time.
Although I’m not a big jazz lover, I’m captivated by the idea that you can listen to informal music in beautiful outdoor settings.
During the day, usually early afternoon there is a concert at altitude, such as at Montenvers, Brevent or the Emmosson Dam. Events are free but you often have to buy a lift pass or hike somewhere, which adds to the magic I think.
Early evening (6pm) there are a series of smaller concerts in bars around Chamonix town and Argentiere, including a free concert in the market square. Then around 9pm there are various jam sessions around bars in town.
You can find details of this year’s line up here http://www.cosmojazzfestival.com/programme.php.
André Manoukian has been leading a team of volunteers in this extravaganza for the last 4 years. Being a local resident with friends all over the world, things seem to come together well.
As of yet we’ve not had chance to catch the festival due to the lack of leave entitlement. However we wish them all the best when they kick off on July 27th!
